The million dollar prize money is so that schools can enhance their football stadium seating and field.
STOCKDALE, Texas — Stockdale High School has just been named one of 25 finalist schools in the United States to receive a $25,000 prize through T-Mobile’s Friday Night 5G Lights program, a nationwide competition celebrating the power of high school football to bring communities together. Now they need your vote to win the big money… $1 million!
The prize money is so that schools can enhance their football stadium seating and field.
Stockdale High School had previously earned a $5,000 “5K Friday” award earlier this year.
“The Bobby Russell Football Field is more than just a place to play — it’s where our community comes together every Friday night to support our students and show our school spirit. This game changing $25k prize will allow us to make much needed upgrades that reflects our pride and brings new life to Friday Night Lights in Brahma country,” said Shawn Alvarez, Athletic Director, Stockdale High School.
This high schools are being recognized for their school spirit, creativity, and community support. Two of the 25 finalists are from Texas. Nearly 300 schools across Texas entered the Friday Night 5G Lights contest — making this win a true standout for Stockdale High School.
On Friday, October 10, the school will be recognized at a special Friday night celebration featuring games, giveaways, and free concessions for attendees, all hosted by T-Mobile.
SHS is now one step closer to the grand prize, which includes a $1M field upgrade, a renovated GronkFitness weight room, a consultation with stadium experience experts, an all-expenses-paid trip to the SEC Championship Game for 16 school representatives and a tailgate party revealing the finalized upgrades in 2026.
