2 firefighters hospitalized after responding to large east-side house fire, SAFD says

The call came in around 5 p.m. for a reported structure fire.

SAN ANTONIO — Two San Antonio firefighters were taken to the hospital after crews battled a large house fire just east of the downtown area Friday afternoon, officials said.

The San Antonio Fire Department was called to the 500 block of Nolan Street a little after 5 p.m. for a reported structure fire.

Officials said upon arrival, crews found flames and heavy smoke coming from a home. Firefighters conducted a search inside the residence when conditions started to worsen due to it being a “wind-driven fire.”

According to SAFD, once the fire was under control, crews reentered the home and noted that the fire caused the walls and chimney to collapse.

Officials said two firefighters were taken to the hospital but didn’t provide details on their possible injuries. At least 23 units were called to the location.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
