SAN ANTONIO — A man with several felony warrants has been sent to the hospital with life-threatening injuries following a shooting involving SAPD, officials say.
During a news conference, Chief William McManus said that SAPD received an anonymous call saying there was a wanted individual in a home in the area of the 3100 block of Vera Cruz.
SAPD says officers were familiar with this home. When they knocked on the door, someone answered and told police they didn’t know if the suspect was there but if he is, he would be in the back.
When officers went into the backyard, they say the 31-year-old suspect was there, hiding, and attempted to flee, jumping the fence and onto the other side of the lot.
At some point during the chase, there were three shots fired, according to Chief McManus, and the suspect was hit twice. A gun was recovered where the suspect was shot.
The suspect was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to SAFD. His current condition is unknown. He also hasn’t been identified.
One of the warrants he was wanted for was unlawful carrying, according to McManus.
No officers were injured in the shooting. The officer that shot the suspect has been placed on administrative duty.
