3 hospitalized after aggressive bee attack at home on northeast side, SAFD says

Three people were hospitalized after an aggressive bee swarm attacked on San Antonio’s northeast side, according to fire officials.

SAN ANTONIO — Three people were hospitalized Tuesday morning after being stung multiple times by aggressive bees at a northeast side home, according to the San Antonio Fire Department.

Firefighters responded around 10:35 a.m. to the 4300 block of Stockdale Street, where officials said a resident was mowing the lawn when the bees suddenly became aggressive.

According to SAFD, the swarm chased people for at least 100 yards away from the property. Officials said everyone involved was stung multiple times.

Two people were injured at the home and were being transported to a hospital. A third person was taken to a hospital from a nearby location and is believed to be connected to the same bee attack, according to fire officials.

The extent of the victims’ injuries was not immediately known.

Firefighters responding to the scene were also stung and received treatment, SAFD said.

Officials said a person at the home told responders the hive had been on the property for some time and had never previously attacked anyone.

Authorities have not determined what type of bees were involved. Specialists were expected to respond to remove or neutralize the hive, while emergency crews remained on scene.

SAFD advised residents in the area who see large numbers of bees to stay indoors. Officials said the aggressive behavior appears to be isolated to the home where the incident occurred.

The situation remains under investigation.
