Northside ISD Superintendent John Craft plans to retire after a 27-year career in education, according to district officials.
SAN ANTONIO — Northside Independent School District Superintendent John Craft has announced his intention to retire after 27 years in public education.
Northside ISD said Craft began his career in 1999 as a biology teacher and coach in the Carroll Independent School District. He later served as an assistant principal in Carroll and as a high school principal in Mansfield Independent School District before becoming superintendent of Hamilton Independent School District in 2010.
Before joining Northside ISD in 2023, Craft also served as superintendent of Killeen Independent School District.
District officials credited Craft with focusing on student achievement, supporting campus growth, advancing bond-funded facility projects and prioritizing the needs of both students and employees throughout his career.
“Serving the students and the Northside ISD community has been the privilege of a lifetime,” Craft said in a statement.
According to Northside ISD, the Board of Trustees is scheduled to meet June 9 to discuss a transition plan and begin the process of identifying the next leader of the district.
