41@100: Skydiving and concert among events planned to honor legacy of President George H.W. Bush

Bush 41 would have turned 100 on June 12 so several events are planned this week in Houston and College Station, including a skydive by his grandchildren.

HOUSTON — The legacy of President George H.W. Bush is being celebrated this week in honor of what would have been his 100th birthday.

Several events are planned in Houston and College Station.

The 41@100 events began Monday near a monument of the former president in Sesquicentennial Park in downtown Houston.  Members of the Bush family attended the ceremony in his honor.

“It’s a celebration of both the public part of his life but also the private, so many of his friends, so many people that worked in his administration will gather here and honor that legacy and keep it alive to a certain extent,” grandson Pierce Bush told us. “I think the world needs more of what George H.W. Bush represented, probably now more than ever.”

A Community Celebration Day is planned for Thursday at the George H.W. Bush Presidential Center in College Station where admission will be free all day.

8 a.m.: Grand opening of the Marine One/4141 Locomotive Pavilion

8 a.m. Bush 41 celebrated his 80th and 90th birthdays by skydiving. His grandchildren will celebrate his love of adventure Thursday by skydiving themselves.

11 a.m. – 1 p.m.: Birthday cake and ice cream reception with Sully the Service Dog near the rotunda at the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library & Museum.

2 p.m. – 3 p.m.: “Looking Forward: Carrying the Mantle of Service into the Future”: A conversation with President Bush’s grandchildren at the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center.

7:30 p.m.: Free concert featuring Aggie legends and former students, Robert Earl Keen ’78 and Lyle Lovett ’79. It will be held in Lot 41 of the presidential center. Click here for more information.

All events are free, but registration is required for all events except for entry to the Pavilion and Library & Museum. For questions, please email events@bush41.org.
