6 found dead inside Union Pacific boxcar in Laredo, police say

According to KGNS, multiple people were found dead inside the train Sunday, in a region of Texas that reached the upper-90s. An investigation is underway.

LAREDO, Texas — Six bodies were found in a Union Pacific boxcar in Laredo on Sunday, according to the local news station KGNS.

Officials with the Laredo Police Department confirmed to KENS 5 that six people are confirmed dead and an investigation is underway. 

Police responded to 12101 Jim Young Way near Mile Marker 13, according to KGNS, where the boxcar was discovered with several people inside. Authorities called the probe ongoing and “fluid.” 

Union Pacific said in a statement that the company was “saddened by this incident and is working closely with law enforcement to investigate.” 

The victims haven’t been identified nor did authorities release more information right away on what they believe may have happened. Temperatures reached 97 degrees on Sunday afternoon, meaning conditions inside train cars in the region likely felt like beyond 100 degrees.
