
The Aggies, ranked first in the nation, proved how strong they are in their first postseason matchup at Davis Diamond in College Station, Texas.
COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The top-seeded Texas A&M Aggies (45-9)routed the Saint Francis Red Flash (26-24) by the score of 18-0 to open the NCAA softball postseason Friday evening at Davis Diamond in College Station, Texas.
Sydney Lessentine and Sidne Peters combined to throw a no-hitter while the bats brought in a regional record 18 runs in five innings. The Aggies scored at least one run in each inning with a 10-run stretch coming in the second.
Infielder Amari Harper led the Texas A&M offense, going 3-for-3 with a home run, six RBI, and two runs. Shortstop Koko Wooley hit 3-for-3 to produce a season-high three RBI and score three runs in her fourth consecutive game.
The teams are playing in the regionals phase of the tournament, where two losses bounce a team out of the playoffs.
Aggie starter Sydney Lessentine moved to 5-2 on the season, going 3.0 innings and striking out five batters, while yielding only one walk. Sidne Peters entered the circle in relief making her first appearance since March 21 tossing 2.0 scoreless innings and striking out three of the seven batters she faced.
Texas A&M is set to take on Liberty (48-12) at 1 p.m. Saturday at Davis Diamond. TV designation will be announced at a later time.
- Kennedy Powell scored multiple runs for the 18th time this season, matching a program record 60 runs in a season set by Sharonda McDonald in 2007.
- Texas A&M moved to 34-5 when Powell scores a run and 17-1 when she scores multiple runs.
- Senior Koko Wooley registered her team-leading seventh three-hit game of the season and stole multiple bases for the third time this season and the 14th in her career.
- Wooley has reached base safely in 15 of her last 17 plate appearances, while the other two plate appearances she reached via error and a fielder’s choice.
- Amari Harper has tallied six RBI and a home run in back-to-back games. The junior has reached base safely in eight consecutive plate appearances dating back to May 8 against South Carolina.
- Sidne Peters made her first appearance since March 21 against No. 24 Alabama. The sophomore threw first pitch strikes to five of the seven batters she faced.
- Sydney Lessentine was part of her second career no-hitter after tossing a complete game no-hitter against George Washington in five innings on Feb. 28.
- The regional no-hitter was A&M’s fourth in program history and first since 2008 when Megan Gibson accomplished the feat.
- Texas A&M scored a season-high 18 runs reaching double-digits for the 21st time this season and won its 19th game via run-rule. It marks the fourth consecutive run-rule victory, including games at No. 2 Tennessee, and against No. 12 South Carolina and No. 5 Texas at the SEC Tournament.
- A&M has outscored its previous four opponents 57-6, while the 18 runs are tied third-most in program history and the most since scoring 17 at No. 13 Alabama on April 14, 2024.
- The Aggies’ 14 walks in five innings matched Tennessee for the third most walks in NCAA Regional history in May of 2018 against Monmouth.
- No Scorigami, tonight’s 18-0 victory is the second time in program history after beating ACU, 18-0, in 2022.
