Artists from across U.S. transform downtown Corpus Christi for 5th annual Mural Fest

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Downtown Corpus Christi is getting a fresh coat of color as artists from across the country gather for the fifth annual Mural Fest.

The event celebrates the history, culture and character of the Coastal Bend while adding large-scale works of art throughout the Marina Arts District.

This year’s murals feature themes ranging from marine life and tropical plants to local landmarks, including the Harbor Bridge and Naval Air Station Corpus Christi.

Several muralists traveled from across the country to take part in the festival, including artists Debra and Daisuke from Los Angeles.

“We like to think anytime we have the opportunity to visit a new town that we are leavng a gift for that town and part of that gift is getting to know the community,” Debra and Daisuke said.

The artists are not the only ones getting involved.

Attorney Bob Hilliard had the opportunity to pick up a paintbrush and contribute to the mural taking shape on the garage building at his law firm.

The completed murals will be unveiled during the First Friday ArtWalk.
