Black bear hit by a vehicle along highway in Hill Country town

The accident with the bear happened on Highway 83, about three miles south of the Garven Store, which is in Divide.

KERR COUNTY, Texas — A vehicle hit a black bear on a Texas highway just west of Kerrville Saturday, according to officials.

The Divide Volunteer Fire Department, in Kerr County, posted on its Facebook page that the accident with the bear happened on Highway 83, about three miles south of the Garven Store, which is in Divide.

The bear did suffer injuries and the fire department confirmed in the Facebook comments that the bear died. There were no injuries among the people the car, officials said.

The fire department said the Game Warden took possession of the bear.

According to Texas A&M, black bears are rare in Texas, but seen in the Panhandle, western Hill Country and the Pecos areas.

We responded to a vehicle vs Black Bear wreck on Hwy 83 approximately 3 miles south of Garven Store. No injuries except for the bear. Game Warden took possession of the bear.
