Celebrate Juneteenth at these Black-owned restaurants in the San Antonio area

Take a look at our list of Black-owned restaurants, food trucks and catering services in San Antonio.

SAN ANTONIO — If you are looking for ways to commemorate Juneteenth in San Antonio, we have compiled a list of Black-owned local restaurants to visit.

The United States celebrated its first federally-recognized Juneteenth in 2021 after President Joe Biden signed a bill creating Juneteenth National Independence Day.

The holiday commemorates June 19, 1865, when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, learned they had been freed — two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued during the bloody Civil War. For generations, Black Americans have recognized Juneteenth, but it only became a federal holiday only in recent years.
