CRYSTAL CITY, Texas — A potentially dangerous situation in Crystal City ended without injuries after deputies safely took an armed man into custody.
According to the Zavala County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded Sunday evening to a home on North Avenue B after reports of a man threatening himself and family members with a knife.
When deputies arrived, they encountered Alex Manuel Alvarez holding a large kitchen knife and refusing commands to drop it.
Officials say the suspect made direct threats toward the responding deputy.
Using non-lethal force, the deputy deployed a Taser and was able to safely disarm and detain Alvarez.
Investigators say witnesses reported the man had also damaged property and threatened family members before deputies arrived.
Emergency crews evaluated Alvarez at the scene before he was taken to the Zavala County Jail.
He is now charged with terroristic threat involving a family or household.
Authorities say no injuries were reported.
