ELECTION RESULTS: Who won nominations in Texas and San Antonio-area primary runoffs Tuesday night?

Here are the winners of Tuesday’s primary runoffs in Bexar County and in Texas.

SAN ANTONIO — Prolonged contests came to an end and fall races took clearer shape with the results of the Texas Primary runoffs elections Tuesday night. 

Below is an at-a-glance look at the major state and Bexar County races. 

U.S. Senate – Republican runoff

In the headlining federal race of the night, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton prevailed over incumbent John Cornyn for one of the state’s two U.S. Senate seats. Paxton will face off against Democrat James Talarico in November. 

U.S. House District 35 

Johnny Garcia, a Bexar County sheriff’s deputy, and state Rep. John Lujan will face off in November for this open congressional seat after winning their parties’ respective runoffs. Neither contest was particularly close. 

Texas lieutenant governor – Democratic runoff

State Rep. Vikki Goodwin secured the Democratic nod over Marcos Velez and will face incumbent Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick this fall. 

Goodwin currently represents parts of Travis County and the Lake Travis area in the Texas Legislature. 

Texas attorney general 

State Sen. Nathan Johnson defeated Joe Jaworski for the Democratic nomination in the open contest for the statewide AG seat. On the Republican side of things, State Sen. Mayes Middleton prevailed over Chip Roy. 

Johnson and Middleton will meet this fall in the race for Texas AG, which Ken Paxton will depart amid his ongoing U.S. Senate bid. 

Bexar County DA – Democratic runoff

Former appellate Judge Luz Elena Chapa needed all her support to edge out seasoned prosecutor Jane Davis for the Democratic nomination. She’ll go on to face Republican Ashley Foster in the contest to succeed DA Joe Gonzales, who is retiring after this year. 

Bexar County district clerk – Democratic runoff

Christine Castillo managed the win over incumbent Gloria A. Martinez. This contest doesn’t have a Republican candidate in 2026. 

Bexar County clerk – Democratic runoff

Incumbent Lucy Adame-Clark’s bid for another term stays alive after she easily fended off challenger Cynthia Castro for the Democratic nomination. This contest doesn’t have a Republican candidate in 2026. 

Texas Senate District 19 – Republican runoff

Marcus Cardenas managed to secure the nomination over Robert Jr. Marks and will face Democratic incumbent Roland Gutierrez this fall. 

Texas House District 125 – Democratic runoff

Adrian Reyna blew past Michelle Barrientes Vela for the Democratic nomination. State House District 125 covers parts of west Bexar County, including Leon Valley, and is currently represented by Democratic Ray Lopez, who is retiring. 

Reyna will face Republican Ricardo Martinez this fall. 

Texas railroad commissioner – Republican runoff

In one of the closer state races of the night, Bo French was on track to defeat Jim Wright for the Republican nomination in the race for one of the state’s railroad commission seats. The result hasn’t been finalized as of 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Judge, Bexar County Court at Law No. 10 – Democratic runoff

Incumbent Cesar Garcia fended off challenger Shannon Roberta Salmon. This contest doesn’t have a Republican candidate in 2026. 

Judge, Court of Criminal Appeals Place 3 – Republican runoff

Thomas Smith was in position to win against Alison Fox for the Republican nod. He would run against Democrat Okey Anyiam, who ran uncontested in March.
