The latest Fortune 500 list puts Texas on top, with Dallas-Fort Worth home to many of the companies driving the state’s economic clout.
DALLAS — The newly released 2026 Fortune 500 goes big on Texas.
Gov. Greg Abbott highlighted the milestone Tuesday, noting that Texas has 57 Fortune 500 headquarters, the most in the nation. The annual Fortune 500 rankings are based on companies’ 2025 fiscal year revenue.
“Texas is the undisputed headquarters of headquarters,” Abbott said in a statement. “The world’s leading businesses invest with confidence in Texas because of our welcoming business climate, predictable regulatory environment, and skilled and growing workforce. People and businesses are choosing Texas because Texas works.”
According to the governor’s office, Texas also leads all states in combined Fortune 500 revenue, totaling $2.8 trillion.
North Texas plays a major role in that success, with many Fortune 500 companies headquartered across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.
Dallas is currently home to telecommunications giant AT&T, which has announced plans to relocate its headquarters to Plano, as well as energy company Energy Transfer, commercial real estate firm CBRE Group, Tenet Healthcare, HF Sinclair, Texas Instruments and Southwest Airlines.
The Irving and Las Colinas area has one of the region’s largest concentrations of Fortune 500 companies, including McKesson, the highest-ranked company in North Texas on the list. Other companies headquartered there include Caterpillar, Kimberly-Clark, Fluor Corporation, Vistra, Builders FirstSource, Celanese and Commercial Metals.
Fort Worth is home to American Airlines, homebuilder D.R. Horton calls Arlington home and Charles Schwab is headquartered in Westlake.
Abbott said the state’s business climate continues to attract major employers and investment.
“The world’s leading businesses invest with confidence in Texas because of our welcoming business climate, predictable regulatory environment, and skilled and growing workforce,” Abbott said.
