Federal judge orders release of family from Dilley ICE Detention Center having ties to deadly attack in Colorado

A judge ordered the release of an Egyptian family from ICE detention amid claims of wrongful detention and relation to a Colorado attack suspect.

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A federal judge in San Antonio has ordered a high-profile Egyptian family to be released from the ICE detention center in Dilley.

This order came on Monday for the El Gamal family who has ties to the man accused of a Colorado attack that killed an 82-year old woman and injured 29.

The El Gamal family attorney is demanding the Trump administration to immediately release them from the ICE detention center in Dilley after being there for the past 10 months.

In response, the Department of Homeland Security claims that the judge wants to, “release this terrorist’s family onto American streets.”

According to The Texas Tribune, the El Gamal family came to the U.S. on a tourist visa in 2022 and applied for asylum.

The family of six have been detained since June after the father, Mohamed Soliman was accused of throwing molotov cocktails at mostly Jewish demonstrators in Boulder, Colorado June of last year.

This attack resulted in the death of an 82-year-old woman and injured 29 more.

The family has shared poor conditions inside the Dilley detention center, like lack of medical treatment, moldy food, dirty water, and no accommodations for their Muslim faith.

A federal hearing is now scheduled for Thursday in San Antonio for Judge Fred Biery to decide if the family has been wrongfully detained.
