H-E-B honors Texas educators with $480K in awards, including New Braunfels teacher

Outstanding teachers, counselors and schools across Texas recognized for going above and beyond.

SAN ANTONIO — Educators across Texas are getting a well-deserved round of applause — and a big financial boost.

H-E-B announced the winners of its 2026 Excellence in Education Awards, handing out a total of $480,000 in cash and grants to standout teachers, counselors, principals and schools across the state.

Among the honorees is Kevin Korpi of New Braunfels High School, who received the Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing more than 20 years in the classroom. Winners in that category received $25,000 for themselves and another $25,000 for their schools.

The awards ceremony, held in Houston, highlighted educators who are shaping the next generation through dedication, leadership and impact in their communities.

Six teachers were recognized across categories including Rising Star, Leadership and Lifetime Achievement, while counselors and principals were also honored with thousands in grants and personal awards.

A San Antonio-area win also made the list, with Menchaca Early Childhood Center in Southside ISD receiving $25,000.

Since launching the program in 2002, H-E-B has awarded nearly $15 million to educators across Texas.

Officials say the goal is to celebrate those going the extra mile — not just in classrooms, but in communities.

Nominations for the 2027 H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards are now open to all state-certified public school professionals currently working in Texas. Teachers, counselors, principals, early childhood centers, school boards and districts can win cash prizes for their outstanding work. Nominations will close on September 30, 2026.
