K Space Contemporary’s mural project invites public to join painting fun

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Downtown Corpus Christi is about to get a lot more colorful, thanks to a community-driven mural project led by K Space Contemporary.

As part of this year’s Downtown Mural Fest, the nonprofit’s mural arts program is creating a massive, nearly 600-foot mural that celebrates everything locals love about the Coastal Bend, from the iconic Selena statue to seagulls and seashells.

The mural will be installed behind the Annex Building on South Chaparral Street and the best part? The public is invited to help paint it.

“This is a unique opportunity for us to share the process we do, where we get to do a lot of the painting indoors but then open it up also to community members, rather than just students who come to our mural program,” education coordinator Nichole Schiller said.

Mural Fest officially kicks off June 1, and there’s still time to get involved. K Space Contemporary is inviting volunteers to help finish painting mural panels, including next weekend at their downtown studio.
