KENS 5 earns statewide recognition for excellence in news coverage

The station received five awards from the Texas Association of Broadcasters, including the top honor for overall broadcast excellence.

SAN ANTONIO — KENS 5 has been recognized as the top large-market TV news station in the state by the Texas Association of Broadcasters.

During an award presentation Saturday night in Austin, the San Antonio station was recognized with the 2026 Texas Broadcast News Award for Overall Broadcast Excellence among large-market Texas stations.

KENS 5 also won awards for best Breaking News and best Continuing Coverage for its reporting work during the catastrophic July 2025 floods in the Texas Hill Country.

“Our coverage of the Hill Country floods showcased the strength of our journalists on every platform,” said Jack Acosta, KENS 5 news director. From the first weather alerts to long-term accountability reporting, we are proud of the work we did to keep our community informed when it mattered the most.”

KENS 5 journalists Michael Humphries and Alicia Neaves also were recognized with awards for best Feature Editing / General News and best Serious Feature for “The Art of Healing,” a story about an artist who creates tributes for military veterans’ families.

“These awards speak to our station’s long-standing commitment to excellence, innovation and public service,” said Tom Cury, KENS 5 general manager. “We are proud to be ‘San Antonio’s Own’ and serve our broader Texas community with timely, reliable and compassionate coverage.”
