Man arrested in Universal City shooting, accused of targeting robbery victims via dating apps

An 18-year-old is in custody for allegedly shooting a teen in Universal City. He is accused of using dating apps to target victims in a string of violent robberies.

SAN ANTONIO — A teenager remains hospitalized after a shooting in Universal City, and police say the 18-year-old suspect accused in the case is now behind bars.

According to the Universal City Police Department, investigators believe the suspect used online dating apps to target victims before the encounters turned into violent robberies.

Police say the suspect, identified as Aguilar Campos, is connected to at least two violent incidents in Universal City, including the shooting of a teenage boy earlier this week.

Authorities said a SWAT operation led to Campos’ arrest. Investigators are also looking into whether another person may have assisted him.

According to Universal City police, both incidents began through online dating platforms.

In the first case, investigators say a victim was robbed and pistol-whipped. In the second incident Monday, police say a teenage boy was lured to a meeting location, robbed and then shot by the suspect.

The teen remained hospitalized Wednesday morning, according to police.

Investigators said Campos had recently moved to Universal City and had been staying at the Villa Mesa Apartments.

Police also believe a woman may have been working with Campos, though no additional arrests had been announced as of Wednesday morning.

Universal City police said Campos, despite being only 18 years old, has an extensive criminal history. He is facing multiple felony charges and remained in the Bexar County Jail at last check.
