SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A man is dead after he crashed while trying to outrun a Bexar County Deputy.
Sheriff Javier Salazar says the deputy stopped the man, who was speeding along West Military Drive at around 1 A.M. Thursday.
As the deputy spoke to the man, he noticed some drugs in the passenger seat. The man handed over a small bag of pills when the deputy asked for it and admitted that he had a gun.
But when the deputy asked the man to get out of the vehicle, the man refused and took off.
The deputy ran back to his patrol vehicle and began searching for the man until he spotted the severely damaged vehicle on Military near Marbach.
The man had crashed into a utility pole, then two trucks before he was ejected from the vehicle.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Deputies found the man’s gun in the car along with ammunition and several bags of marijuana stuffed in a backpack.
The man’s name hasn’t been released.
The deputy wasn’t hurt during the incident but will be placed on administrative leave before taking on administrative duties during the investigation.
