Man sentenced to life in prison for 2023 Jourdanton murder

Samuel Ponce has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Jorge Erosa in Jourdanton, with evidence that included witness testimony and security footage.

ATASCOSA COUNTY, Texas — A man convicted of killing a 23-year-old man in Jourdanton will spend the rest of his life behind bars.

Samuel Ponce was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Jorge Erosa, who was shot multiple times on Elm Street in Jourdanton shortly before 2 a.m. on Aug. 21, 2023.

Erosa was transported to Brooke Army Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.

According to prosecutors, witness testimony, security camera footage, social media posts and the firearm used in the shooting were all presented as evidence during the trial and helped secure Ponce’s conviction.

During the punishment phase of the trial, prosecutors said Ponce traveled to Pleasanton approximately 25 minutes after the shooting in Jourdanton and fatally shot a second man.

Authorities said Ponce was later stopped by the Pleasanton Police Department. During that stop, officers reportedly found cocaine inside Ponce’s vehicle.

The additional allegations were discussed during sentencing proceedings as prosecutors argued for a lengthy prison term.

Ponce was ultimately sentenced to life in prison for Erosa’s murder and will remain behind bars for the rest of his life.
