Officials say Donevyn Bowie shot the victim twice in the head while she was in the bathtub.
SAN ANTONIO — A man will spend nearly 40 years in prison for killing his girlfriend back in December 2023, according to the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office.
Donevyn Bowie was sentenced to 38 years in prison for the murder of his 21-year-old girlfriend at a north-side apartment complex. He was sentenced Monday by Judge Jennifer Peña, presiding in the 290th District Court.
According to an incident report, San Antonio police were called to the 3200 block of North Loop 1604 West around 9:30 p.m. for reports of an alleged murder on December 15, 2023. Upon arrival to the Ridgeline at Rogers Ranch apartments, officers found a woman shot in the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials said Bowie had got into a heated argument with the victim over financial issues. During the confrontation, Bowie shot the victim twice in the head while she was in the bathtub. He later claimed the shooting was accidental and was subsequently booked in the Bexar County jail on a murder charge.
“This was a senseless act of violence that took a life in a moment of anger,” said District Attorney Joe Gonzales. “Today’s sentence ensures accountability and reflects our commitment to seeking justice for victims of domestic violence.”
Assistant Criminal District Attorneys Raymond Saldaña and Luis Echeverria of the Family Violence Division led the prosecution team, with support from Victim Advocate Paul Manriquez and Investigator Brian King.
