Mavericks 113, Spurs 107: What they said after the game

The Spurs could not get a win over their Texas rival.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs lost at home to the Dallas Mavericks, 113-107. Dallas swept the regular season against San Antonio, 4-0.

Victor Wembanyama scored 12 points and 11 rebounds. Devin Vassell scored 19 points in the loss, and Keldon Johnson scored 14. Jeremy Sochan chipped in with 13 points and 10 rebounds, and Tre Jones had 22 points and nine assists.

The Spurs are 15-54 on the season and will next host the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday night in San Antonio.

Coach Gregg Popovich:

“We out-rebounded them. We shot better than they did. We out-scored them in the third quarter and out-scored them in the fourth quarter. We had the same number of assists. Basically, they get one more than we did but we had 16 turnovers. That’s a difference in the game. I couldn’t be more proud of the way we played. We had made all kinds of mistakes, but so did they (Dallas) and they want to win a championship. Our goal is to get better every game individually and team-wise.”

“I think that Jeremy (Sochan) is the main one guarding him (Luka Doncic) tonight. He made it difficult for him from the start. He’s he’s been doing a great job defensively this year. You know, all the matchups that he’s been getting, most nights, he gets the toughest one. He accepts the challenge. He makes it tough on the opposing team’s players.”

“That’s been our problem (turnovers) for the main part of the season. Just been turning the ball over. Playing a transition, they (Dallas) have closers with Kyrie (Irving) and Luka. Special players like that, we can’t give them more opportunities to put the ball in the basket.”
