News of the departure comes a few days after the San Antonio mayor’s deputy chief of staff also said he was leaving.
SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones’s administration has seen several departures in her first year at the helm. One of its longest-serving members also decided this week to step down.
Dr. Jenise Carroll, the U.S. Air Force veteran and recent FBI supervisor, told the mayor in a Wednesday letter that she would resign effective May 12. But she doesn’t plan to return to work, saying she left for the final time at 8:30 p.m. and planned to use the rest of her personal and holiday balance to carry her to her official departure date.
“I love this city, I’m here to help,” said Carroll, who arrived in the Alamo City to begin the job on July 6 of last year. “But I’m ready to do something else.”
Carroll, a Texas native, came to San Antonio having served as wing commander at Hill Air Force Base in Utah and the director of legislative affairs at U.S. Central Command, part of the Department of Defense.
A week ago, the mayor’s office announced that Deputy Chief of Staff Pat Wallace was also leaving.
Carroll pointed to “a very busy 10 months” serving Jones and shared confidence that the current team was “pretty solid.”
“Yes, there’s been several losses, but at this point I believe I’ve done my role as a chief. Love San Antonio, I’m not going anywhere,” Carroll said. “But it’s time for me to step off and do something else.”
