Motorcyclist critically injured after crashing into East Central ISD bus, SAPD says

Investigators are trying to determine what caused the crash and if speed was a factor.

SAN ANTONIO — A motorcyclist was rushed to the hospital after crashing into an East Central Independent School District bus on the southeast side of San Antonio Monday afternoon, officials said.

Emergency responders were called to a crash involving a school bus and motorcycle at the intersection of W.W. White Road and Red Haven Drive around 2 p.m.

SAPD Detective Cody Smith was on scene and said the motorcyclist had been traveling southbound on W.W. White when it clipped the back of the school bus, which was at a traffic light getting ready to turn. The bus was on the way to pick up children from a nearby school.

East Central ISD officials said there was one student on the bus at the time of the crash, and both the student and the bus driver were unharmed.

Smith said the motorcyclist was taken to a hospital in critical condition and was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Investigators are trying to determine what caused the crash and if speed was a factor.

According to SAPD, the roadways may be closed until the scene is cleared.

This an ongoing investigation.
