Fans followed the Spurs to the Pacific Northwest, and look forward to their return to the AT&T Center.
SAN ANTONIO — Anytime the Spurs hit the post-season fans in San Antonio flock to the Alamodome, a local bar or restaurant, or simply their own TVs to watch the Silver & Black take on their opponents, but some decide to hit the road just like the Spurs to battle it out with fans from the other team. And Spurs fans have no doubt their team will take the trophy this year.
“I live in Oregon, but I’ve been a Spurs fan like since I was a kid. So, I’m I’m super hyped up they’re doing well this year,” one fan said.
Another chimed in, “We live in Seattle. We moved up to Seattle about 12 years ago, but always say I’m first a Spurs fan.”
Road trippers from not too far away watched their Spurs slaughter the Trailblazers in the Moda Center in downtown Portland.
When asked about how much of a Spurs fan he was, one young man said, “I come from Seattle. I’ve been a Spurs fan for 10 years. More than 10 years. Like, I celebrated fall 2014. I remember Spurs beat the Blazers and to win the championship that year. I think they can win the championship this year.”
But we wanted to go a little further to find some Spurs fans – connecting to Paris, France at an official playoff watch party at Belushi’s, Paris Canal. And while they may not be chanting, “Go Spurs Go,” translated to “Allez Spurs Allez, they were still donning their Spurs jerseys, with a little guy saying, “No Trailblazers No!”
“Our organization has built a unique, decades-long connection with French fans and we cherish any opportunity to deepen that relationship through in-person initiatives. These fan-centered events are a core part of the Spurs fan experience, bringing people together worldwide, and we can’t wait to see our French supporters bring that spirit again,” RC Buford, CEO of the Spurs, said in a statement.
But back here at home fans gathered at the San Antonio airport to welcome the Spurs home with signs, cheers, and plenty of car honks. And, as long as the Spurs are in the playoffs you better make sure your car horn is in working order, as we hope it will continue all the way through to the finals!
