New whimsical goth café Moth Milk opens inside popular music venue The Starlighter

SAN ANTONIO — As you walk into The Starlighter, a popular music venue on the northwest side, you’ll also find a new whimsical goth pop-up cafe.

Moth Milk opened inside The Starlighter in early March, serving matcha, lattes and a cozy, community-driven atmosphere. The café is currently Wednesday through Sunday, with expanded hours expected by the end of May.

The husband-and-wife team behind The Starlighter are also the owners of Moth Milk: Jacob and Kayla Guerrero.

Kayla said she wanted to bring life into the venue during the daytime hours, when The Starlighter is typically quiet. She now runs the café alongside her cousin and employee, Angela Soto.

Moth Milk’s name comes from a playful spin on “mother’s milk,” tying back to Angela and Kayla and their experience as mothers.

“For our name we wanted something spooky and we’re very into whimsy, goth and we love insects, so it was perfect,” Kayla said.

The café’s menu leans into that aesthetic, featuring drinks named after iconic witches and themes tied to the Divine Feminine. Most syrups are also made in-house.

“We’re really having fun with the drinks and seeing what sticks,” Kayla said.

Beyond coffee, Moth Milk also hosts community events like “Matcha Movie Sundays,” featuring family-friendly films including “Shrek,” “The Lorax” and “Corpse Bride.” The café also plans to host fundraisers and vendor weekends aimed at supporting local artists and small businesses.
