SAN ANTONIO — No one was injured when a San Antonio police officer responding to a robbery call on the west side crashed into a car that had gotten in its way, law enforcement officials said.
The officer in question had her lights and sirens on moments before the accident at West Commerce and South General McMullen. A KENS 5 crew on the scene noticed an SAPD unit with front-end damage and another car with damage to the passenger side.
An SAPD officer at the scene said a woman believed to be in her 20s was detained after the initial robbery call because she was found to have outstanding municipal court warrants.
The incident began when she and another woman visited a WSS shoe store down the street, where the second woman was confronted with a loss prevention officer who believed she may have taken a pair of shoes.
“Didn’t ID himself or anything like that,” the officer said. “Just went up to her and grabbed her purse. She possibly thought he was just another guy that’s probably trying to hurt her or take her property. So she opens her purse, she shows them ‘I’ve got nothing in here.’ And she’s like, ‘I’ve got a gun, but I’m not afraid to use it.’”
The woman did confirm to authorities she had a firearm, the officer said, but she won’t face charges for the threats because the loss prevention officer didn’t identify himself and she hadn’t taken any merchandise. The woman detained for the outstanding warrants was, however, found to have taken a T-shirt from the store.
