The San Antonio region is bracing for a dayslong pattern of heavy rain and potential scattered storms leading all the way to Memorial Day.
It begins with thunderstorms and locally heavy rain expected to impact the area starting Tuesday night and heading into the early morning hours of Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Flash flooding is a possibility.
The active weather is expected to intensify over Central Texas and the Hill Country by Tuesday evening before moving south across much of South-Central Texas overnight.
The NWS issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch in place until 11 p.m. for much of the Hill Country and other communities west of San Antonio.
Virtually all of South-Central Texas is in a Level 2 out of 5 risk for severe weather Tuesday night and overnight, per the NWS. San Antonio’s window for severe weather runs from 9 p.m. Tuesday through 3 a.m. Wednesday, with the weather expected to clear by 5 a.m.
Repeated rounds of rain are possible through Thursday, potentially creating a localized flooding threat.
The highest risk factors are large hail and gusty winds, but San Antonio will stay in the Level 2 out of 4 risk for excessive rain through Thursday.
