
UVALDE, Texas — Southwest Texas College officials said an incident on its Uvalde campus “resulted in the death of one student and injuries to another,” according to a statement released by the college president.
On Thursday, emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene and the injured student was transported for medical treatment, the college said in a press release.
Officials did not release additional details about the incident, nor did they identify the students involved, citing respect for the students and their families.
“The safety and well-being of students, employees and visitors remain a top priority,” the college said in the statement.
College officials added they are cooperating fully with law enforcement as the incident is reviewed.
Southwest Texas College President Hector Gonzales extended condolences to the family and friends of the student who died and asked the community to keep those affected in their thoughts.
The college said additional information will be released as appropriate and consistent with privacy protections.
