Painted Tree Boutique, a haven for vendors in north San Antonio, abruptly closes

The Park North location was home to about 200 small businesses selling everything from household wares to clothes, jewelry and food.

SAN ANTONIO — A popular boutique on San Antonio’s north side has abruptly closed, leaving several small business owners stunned.

In an Instagram post, the Painted Tree Boutiques of San Antonio announced the sudden and permanent closure.

“Unfortunately, all Painted Tree locations are now closed,” the post read. “We just received this news at 11 a.m. Central Time and had no prior notice that this was going to happen.”

In fact, on Monday – just one day prior – the location had advertised plans for a Ladies’ Night this coming Thursday.

“We want to sincerely thank our amazing community for all the love and support you’ve shown over time,” the post went onto say. “Supporting small businesses means everything, and we are so grateful to have been part of your journey.

The storefront was located off Loop 410, at the Park North Shopping Center. According to the account, the location supported more than 200 local shops selling everything from household wares to clothes, jewelry and food. Inside the location were individual small businesses with rented spaces selling all kinds of merchandise and goods.

The owner of Edge 81, who had been set up at Painted Tree for three years, posted a video to Instagram detailing how she is trying to get her merchandise out of the location and figure out where she goes next.

“As soon as we have a new location, I will reach out,” she said in her Instagram Story post. “We’re trying to make it happen. We’re trying to make the best out of it.”

The owner of Chasing Camila posted a video right as she landed back in San Antonio from California. She had just been featured as a vendor at Coachella.

“It is stressful,” she told her followers. “You know, because on top of doing events, online, like, that was something else I depended on.”

She went on to say the timing is especially hard ahead of Fiesta.

Right now, it’s unclear why the company shuttered all of its locations nationwide. In an email from Painted Tree staff notifying vendors about the closure, the company said it was “truly sorry” about the abrupt news and acknowledged “this is not the outcome any of us hoped for.”
