Public health alert issued for chorizo product sold in Texas H-E-B stores

The raw pork chorizo products sold in Texas H-E-B locations may be contaminated with a foreign material, specifically hard plastic and metal according to the FSIS.

SAN ANTONIO — A public health alert has been issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Services (FSIS) for raw pork chorizo products sold in Texas H-E-B locations that may be contaminated with a foreign material, specifically hard plastic and metal.

According to a release, the issue was discovered after the FSIS was notified about consumer complaints reporting pieces of hard plastic and metal found in the raw pork chorizo product.

The product subject to the public health alert is the “apco” Brand Meats Lean/All Natural Premium Chorizo with the best-by date of May 12, 2024.

The chorizo items were produced on Feb. 12, 2024 and bear the establishment number “EST. 602” inside the USDA mark of inspection. View the product label below.

There have been no confirmed reports of injury or illness due to consumption of the product but the FSIS issued the alert to ensure consumers are aware that the product should not be consumed. A recall was not requested because the product is no longer available for purchase.

Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.

Consumers who may still have this product are urged not to consume them. Instead, you are encouraged to throw the item away or return it to the place of purchase.

Consumers with questions about the public health alert can contact the San Antonio Packing Company Operations Manager, David Roe at (210) 224-5441 or at Operations@realchorizo.com.
