Unlike Round 1, you’ll have to register ahead of time if you want to catch a Spurs-Timberwolves playoff game at The Rock. Here’s the details.
SAN ANTONIO — The Spurs can officially start strategizing for the next round of the playoffs after the Timberwolves punched their ticket to the Western Conference Semifinals on Thursday night, setting up a best-of-seven matchup with San Antonio.
Fans can start preparing too, after keeping their car flags, jerseys and alien costumes out of the closet for at least four more games—and hopefully longer.
Here’s what the team is preparing for its most faithful supporters. Game 1 against Minnesota is Monday, with the start time to be announced later.
Pep rally
As they did before Round 1, San Antonio is capitalizing on the excitement with a Sunday pep rally at Hemisfair, where the Jackals and Hype Squad are sure to be registering Silver & Black passion on the Richter scale.
Come hungry: The first 700 fans at the Red McCombs Community Court can get a free taco and coffee from Taco Palenque, as well as grab a car flag or T-shirt. Mariachis will be on hand to make sure the party rings of a true San Antonio atmosphere.
Watch parties
If you arrived late to any of the team’s watch parties at The Rock at La Cantera, you might’ve been squeezed out of a good space to watch the action.
The team is again inviting the Spurs familia to gather and watch the team battle Minnesota for all away games (May 8, 10, 12, and 17). Additional screens will also be set up at the nearby parking lot as well.
Unlike Round 1, however, fans will have to register ahead of time. The team is making 5,000 free tickets available per game; they’re available here.
Select Pluckers Wing Bar restaurants in San Antonio in Austin will also stream every Round 2 game; if you wear your favorite bit of gear, you can take advantage of five free wings when buying an entree.
Fan shop continues
The pop-up fan shop that debuted for the start of the playoffs downtown will continue to be the spot for fans to get special playoff merch, jerseys, hats and more. An official “Second Round reopening” is scheduled for Saturday, May 9, from noon to 3 p.m., including a DJ, even more merchandise options and free tacos for the first 400 customers.
The fan shop continues to be open every day of the playoffs while the Spurs’ season is alive.
Other freebies and playoff deals
If you enjoyed your free Taco Palenque breakfast taco the morning after each Spurs win over the Trail Blazers, don’t worry: That promotion is continuing for the next matchup.
That isn’t all: From May 4-17, fans can enter into sweepstakes for home game tickets, special fan experiences and even free team swag, according to the team. Looking for some new shoes? Fans in San Antonio, Austin, Mexico and Paris will also be able to enter for a chance to win a unique custom Spurs-themed sneaker; stay tuned to the team’s social media accounts for information on how to enter.
