Reports: Super Bowl-winning quarterback Russell Wilson finalizing deal with CBS Sports

According to ESPN, it is unclear if Wilson is retiring as a player or simply taking a pause on his playing career.

NEW YORK — Former Super Bowl-winning quarterback Russell Wilson is reportedly finalizing a deal to join CBS Sports as an analyst.

According to several reports, including from ESPN and NFL Network, Wilson is expected to join CBS Sports’ long-running pregame show The NFL Today, filling a vacancy created when former NFL quarterback Matt Ryan left the network earlier this year to become president of football operations for the Atlanta Falcons.

The move would represent Wilson’s first full-time broadcasting role after a playing career that included a Super Bowl championship, 10 Pro Bowl selections, and stints with the Seattle Seahawks, Denver Broncos, Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants.

According to ESPN, it is unclear if Wilson is retiring as a player or simply taking a pause on his playing career.

The 37-year-old Wilson remained undecided about his football future throughout the offseason. He acknowledged receiving an offer from the New York Jets to continue his playing career but said he was also weighing television opportunities.

Wilson’s broadcast transition follows a difficult final chapter in the NFL. After signing with the New York Giants, he started the team’s first three games before being replaced by rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart.

Drafted by Seattle in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft, he helped lead the Seahawks to their first Super Bowl title and became one of the most successful quarterbacks in franchise history. Over his career, Wilson accumulated nearly 47,000 passing yards and more than 350 touchdown passes while earning widespread recognition for his community service efforts.
