San Antonio Zoo hits pause paws due to weather, plans Saturday comeback

Rainy conditions force closure and cancel Locals Day, but the zoo says it’ll be back in action soon.

SAN ANTONIO — It’s a bit of a rainy day in the animal kingdom.

San Antonio Zoo is pressing the “paws” button Friday, May 1 due to inclement weather.

Zoo officials say the gates at 3903 N. St. Mary’s Street will stay closed for the day, with plans to swing back open Saturday, May 2 — hopefully with sunnier skies and a roaring good time.

Because of the weather, today’s Locals Day event has been scratched. Don’t worry — it’s not extinct. The next Locals Day ticket sale is scheduled for May 10.

Guests with tickets or questions are encouraged to contact the zoo’s call center for help.

Until then, the animals are laying low, staying dry and probably wondering why someone didn’t forecast this fur-storm.

So hang tight, San Antonio — the zoo will be back before you can say “otterly amazing.”
