San Antonio’s Dan Curtis Fitts sentenced for leaving fatal 2020 crash

A San Antonio man has been sentenced to decades in prison for leaving the scene of a deadly motorcycle crash that killed a man in 2020. Dan Curtis Fitts, 42, was sentenced to 20 years in prison Monday on a charge of failure to stop and render aid causing death, according to a news release from the Bexar County District Attorney’s office.

A jury found Fitts guilty on October 2 but sentencing was delayed so the judge could determine the punishment. The motorcycle crash occurred on June 10, 2020, when Fitts collided with another motorcycle that caused Quan Van Bach, who was 28, to lose control and crash. Bach was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fitts left the scene of the accident and called the 911 non-emergency line hours later to report damages to his bike for insurance purposes, according to the news release. He called again the next day and falsely said he was a victim of a hit-and-run.

“As a repeat offender, Dan Curtis Fitts will spend a lot of time in prison due to his incredibly irresponsible decisions. We extend our sympathies to the family of Quan Van Bach,” said Bexar County Criminal District Attorney Joe Gonzales in the news release.
