SAN ANTONIO — Police shot at a dog they say attacked its owners during a disturbance on the south side, SAPD says.
The San Antonio Police Department were called to the 100 block of Montrose for an incident involving a dog around 3 p.m. Wednesday.
According to SAPD, for an unknown reason the dog started to attack his owner, an adult man. The man was on the ground trying to defend himself when the other owner, an adult woman, intervened.
When officers arrived at the scene, the dog was outside, allegedly being aggressive. Police say it wasn’t allowing officers or EMS to enter the home to help the victims inside. When officers did try to enter the front sidewalk, the dog became even more aggressive towards the officers, according to SAPD.
That’s when one of the officers shot at the dog, striking it in its lower chest area. This allowed EMS to get inside to treat the victims.
The man was taken to the hospital with bites on his arms, non-life threatening. The woman also received treatment but did not need to be taken to the hospital.
The dog was not killed and was not treated for injuries. They were taken into ACS custody, according to SAPD. ACS will handle the follow-up of this incident.
SAPD says the dog has been aggressive in the past towards the owners.
The owners will not be receiving any citations at this time.
