SAN ANTONIO — A man found stabbed steps away from Central Library in downtown San Antonio died after being taken to a hospital, sparking a homicide investigation, according to authorities.
The victim, who authorities believe was homeless, was found by a passerby in the area of Augusta and Navarro streets. Police have not detained any suspects as of early Monday afternoon, but investigators were reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses and VIA buses to try and identify who was involved.
It’s believed, officials said, that anywhere from one to four people were involved in an argument with the victim before he was stabbed three times in the torso.
“At this point, we have not located any weapons,” SAPD Sgt. Robert Mount said at the scene. “We’re going through a lot of information, a lot of video to try to pinpoint exactly who was involved and who might be the possible suspect.”
Law enforcement initially responded around 11:24 a.m. Monday. A KENS 5 crew observed a heavy police presence on scene as authorities secured the area.
Mount said a passerby found the victim and called authorities. A couple hours later, police were speaking with a group of people believed to have been in the area about anything they might know to help the investigation along.
“We have multiple officers, various agencies, bike patrol,” Mount said. “Everyone’s involved to try and interview as many people as possible to try and get justice for the victim.”
