SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio erupted in celebration Tuesday night after the Spurs’ Game 5 victory—with fans packing Southwest Military Drive as fireworks lit up the sky. It was an explosive night for Spurs on the court and on the streets.
Spurs fan Israel Camacho captured several videos of the celebration, showing crowds cheering, fireworks launching near traffic, and people dancing on cars.
“I was actually about to pass up a firework while recording, and thankfully it shot up,” Camacho said.
While Camacho says he supports fans celebrating the team’s playoff run, he believes things crossed the line at times.
“I’m all for driving, honking, fireworks — but not to where it’s like this,” he said.
Camacho was also at City Base Cinemas Tuesday night, where he co-hosts Spurs watch parties. He says the atmosphere during the win was electric.
“It’s just outstanding and amazing we have the privilege to do it,” Camacho said. “We plan on continuing to do it—on Friday when we eliminate the Wolves.”
By Wednesday morning, remnants of the celebration stretched along Southwest Military Drive, especially near Commercial Avenue, where debris from fireworks and trash littered the roadway.
San Antonio Public Works says crews were dispatched Wednesday to assist TxDOT with cleanup efforts in the area. Officials are also urging fans to celebrate responsibly and avoid littering.
According to San Antonio police, the only arrest connected to Tuesday night’s celebration was for DWI.
