The breakdown
A line of storms pushing through South-Central Texas has arrived to San Antonio, bringing gusty winds, power outages and other hazards.
As of 10:10 p.m., more than 12,000 CPS Energy customers were without power as the severe weather sweeps through. Officials with the utility said earlier in the day that crews were “prepared to respond” to the impacts of severe weather. See the Outage Map here.
The city also warned about the potentially dangerous weather, telling residents to avoid windows, secure loose items and have a way to receive alerts.
Bexar County and much of the surrounding region are under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until midnight, with damaging wind gusts and large hail possible, according to the National Weather Service. Tornadoes also can’t be ruled out.
Storms are expected to clear to the east of the Alamo City by 1-2 a.m. Monday.
The Storm Prediction Center previously issued Level 1-3 Risks for severe storms. San Antonio is in the Level 2 area.
For the Hill Country and Southern Edwards Plateau, the most likely window for severe activity is 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday, with storms ending by 1 a.m., according to NWS.
For the I-35 corridor into the Coastal Plains, NWS says the most likely timing for severe storms is 10 p.m. Sunday to 1 a.m. Monday, with all activity clearing by 3 a.m.
