Suspect arrested in shooting death of teen near BAMC

SAN ANTONIO — A teenager was arrested in the shooting death of a 17-year-old at an apartment complex near Brooke Army Medical Center on Sunday afternoon.

Octavious Tomrion Galloway, 18, is now charged with murder.

San Antonio Police responded to the 3700 block of Binz Engleman Road, not far from BAMC, around 1:20 p.m. for reports of a shooting in progress.

When officers arrived, they found Thaddeus Eugene Conway Jackson, 17, had been fatally shot in the parking lot in his neck and jaw. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jackson’s mother called the police and told them she was told about her son’s death by a friend of the family, according to an arrest report. She told police that her son was staying with the family friend and the friend’s children, which includes Galloway, according to police.

Investigators were initially told that Galloway was at another location, but later admitted they lied about his whereabouts, according to the arrest report. Investigators tell us a witness came forward with a video of the shooting, showing the victim lying on the ground as the suspect is pulled away by somebody. Several vehicles are seen leaving the parking lot as well.

Police stopped one of those vehicles about six hours later, and inside the vehicle was Galloway.

According to a witness, Galloway, Jackson and a few others went to a store, then returned to the apartments. When they got back, Galloway shot Jackson at least eight times. No motive was indicated.

Multiple 9 mm shells were found at the location, police said.

Some witnesses told police that Galloway was at the scene at the time of the shooting and left in a vehicle shortly afterward, police say.

He was arrested Monday morning after an arrest warrant was issued.
