SAN ANTONIO — The Hill Country teacher shot by a student one morning in March was released from a San Antonio hospital where she had been receiving treatment, according to Comal County officials.
The educator, who hasn’t been identified by Comal County ISD, was discharged last week, several days after the March 30 shooting that disrupted operations and saw law enforcement rushing to Hill Country College Preparatory High School in Bulverde.
Authorities said a 15-year-old student brought his grandfather’s gun to campus, shot the female teacher around 8:30 a.m. and then turned the gun on himself; he died at the scene. No one else was hurt.
A motive has not been determined as law enforcement continue to investigate. The student also hasn’t been identified.
Comal County Sheriff Mark Reynolds said information gathered from Hill Country College Prep staff suggested the student might have been experiencing academic challenges and failing classes.
Investigators have spoken to relatives of the student, who officials say have cooperated with the investigation. Law enforcement also executed a search warrant at the student’s home, where several electronic devices were seized to undergo forensic examination.
“It’s a lot to absorb and take in, but we want to make sure what we’re collecting evidentiary-wise, we owe it to the victim to make sure we’re thorough,” Reynolds told KENS 5 two days after the incident.
Comal County ISD decided to close Hill Country College Prep for the rest of the week of March 30. Students returned to class on April 7.
