Tesla expands tech footprint with $1.5M Hutto facility investment

The EV giant headed by Elon Musk recently obtained a facility in Hutto, which is about 20 miles from Williamson County. City of Hutto’s director of development services confirmed to CBS Austin that Tesla submitted plans in late December for interior modifications as part of an existing industrial building at 200 County Road 199, Hutto, TX 78634. The 35,000-square-foot facility is about 25 miles north of Tesla’s gigafactory, and was formerly occupied by the JRS Company.

“With the substantial technology investments continuing to come to Hutto and our neighbors, East WilCo is becoming the place to be for future-focused development,” Bailey told CBS Austin.

Tesla anticipates spending $1,550,000 on improvements to the warehouse to accommodate its needs, including HVAC and electrical upgrades, according to records obtained by CBS Austin.

Construction on the project is expected to begin Wednesday, January 10, and be done by February 29, pending formal permits. The purpose of the building is still unknown. MySA reached out to Tesla for comment on the new development.
