Toddler dies after being accidentally run over at North Texas home, officials say

A family is facing heartbreaking loss after a toddler was fatally struck by a vehicle at their home while an adult was trying to move it as storms approached.

PARKER COUNTY, Texas — A Parker County family is mourning a tragic loss after a toddler was accidentally ran over by a vehicle at his family’s residence.

The Parker County Sheriff’s Office announced the fatal incident in a statement, saying that its officers were called out to the residence, located in Northeast Parker County, around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. A 911 call from the home detailed that the child was struck by a vehicle that was moving in their driveway.

As more details were made available to authorities, they found that an adult exited the home and attempted to relocate a vehicle closer to the home in order to protect the vehicle from oncoming storms in the area. Without the family’s knowledge, the child had also exited the home and positioned himself near the vehicle, putting himself in a blind spot, authorities said.

As the vehicle pulled forward, the child was subsequently driven over. Immediately, the family provided life-saving measures and continued to do so until EMS arrived and transported the child to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Azle. The toddler was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

“It is with great sadness that we are making this report,” Parker County Sheriff Russ Authier said in the statement. “The thoughts and prayers of the Parker County Sheriff’s Office go out to this family during this difficult time.”
