Don’t let your weekend commutes through northwest San Antonio turn spooky! Here’s what to know.
SAN ANTONIO — Another weekend in San Antonio brings another round of highway closures impacting Loop 1604 at Interstate 10, one of the busiest interchanges in the city.
Here are the closures associated with the Loop 1604 North Expansion Project to make note of so your weekend commute through the northwest side doesn’t take a spooky turn this October.
Friday night and Saturday
The following closures at the interchange are scheduled for this weekend, from 9 p.m. Friday to 9 p.m. Saturday.
- Loop 1604 East main lanes from Chase Hill Parkway exit to entrance ramp at I-10 interchange
- Loop 1604 West main lanes from Northwest Military Highway exit ramp to entrance ramp west of I-10 interchange
- Interstate 10 East and West alternating main lanes at the Loop 1604 interchange (drivers along the I-10 West frontage road will have to take a U-turn onto the I-10 East frontage road and continue until De Zavala before re-entering the I-10 West frontage road and, eventually, the I-10 main lanes at the first available ramp)

About the project
Construction work is currently underway on five of six segments of the $1.4 billion Loop 1604 North Expansion Project, managed by the Texas Department of Transportation.
The project, which began in 2021, is turning a 23-mile stretch of Loop 1604 on the north side into a 10-lane expressway featuring HOV lanes in both directions; increased accessibility for bicyclists and pedestrians on frontage roads; more direct connectors; and improved intersections.
The Loop 1604/I-10 interchange is experiencing a massive makeover as part of the project, including eight planned flyovers opening for business by the end of 2026. Five are already being used by drivers, including one that, at 128 feet high, is the tallest flyover in San Antonio.
