Two suspects involved in the alleged assault of a man with a handheld axe in the city’s east side

Police say one suspect has been arrested and faces charges for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

SAN ANTONIO — Officers were dispatched at around midnight Sunday near the intersection of E Houston and Chestnut Street for what was initially believed to be a shooting.

Upon arrival, police say they discovered two men were involved in the assault of a 30-year-old man.

According to police, the victim was assaulted with a small handheld axe by the first suspect, a 45-year-old male.

During which, a second suspect involved (27-year-old male), fired a weapon into the ground in an attempt to stop the attack.

The first suspect was located at the scene and arrested by police. He faces charges for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The second man involved was listed as a suspect for discharge of a firearm.

Police say the victim sustained a minor laceration to the back of his head and was treated on the scene by EMS with a non-life threatening injury.

This is an ongoing investigation.
