UTSA completes huge comeback against Rice to claim first 40-win season in program history; eyes NCAA tournament spot

The Roadrunners have put together quite the resume as they look to punch their ticket to the NCAA Baseball Tournament for only the fourth time ever.

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA secured its first 40-win season in program history off the back of a huge comeback against the in-state rival Rice Owls.

Through four and half innings on Thursday night, the Roadrunners found themselves in an early 7-0 hole against the Owls.

But as they’ve shown all season, there’s no quit in this group.

Things quickly turned around in the fifth, when the bats came alive and the runs came in bunches. UTSA answered with seven runs of their own in that inning to tie it up.

It was all UTSA after that, as the Roadrunners scored eight more runs. As the final out was notched, the Roadrunners ran away with some history: their first-ever 40-win season.

UTSA has put together quite the resume as they seek to punch their ticket to the NCAA Baseball Tournament for only the fourth time ever.

In their first three trips to the tournament, they couldn’t manage to pull out a single win as they are 0-6 in those games.

Could this historic season add a cherry on top with their first-ever NCAA tournament win?
