‘A tragic, tragic incident’ | Mother, child dead after being hit by car in far north SA neighborhood

The driver is potentially facing intoxication manslaughter charges, San Antonio Police say.

SAN ANTONIO — A young child and a woman believed to be the mother were killed Wednesday night when they were struck by a car whose driver lost control while speeding around a curve, San Antonio Police say.

The child is believed to be 2 years old or younger. Neither victim has been identified.

San Antonio Police Department spokesperson Ricardo Guzman called it a “tragic, tragic incident” that unfolded on the 20500 block of Stone Oak Parkway on the far north side.

Police responded around 8:15 p.m., at which point witnesses told them they saw the unidentified driver “going at a high rate of speed” before hitting the victims.

The car eventually hit a pole, Guzman said, and the driver was evaluated at the scene. Guzman said it “appears intoxication is at play here,” adding the driver could be facing intoxication manslaughter charges, depending on how the investigation develops.

A KENS 5 crew on the scene observed a dark-colored sedan with visible damage sitting in front of Canyon Ridge Elementary School. Guzman said the victims were in a designated crosswalk when they were hit, and the child was in a stroller.
