Game 6 takes both teams to Minneapolis where the Timberwolves look to force a Game 7 in San Antonio.
SAN ANTONIO — The Spurs are one win away from making their first Western Conference Finals since 2017. They need to beat the Timberwolves one more time to solidify their spot against the defending NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder.
San Antonio is coming off a dominant Game 5 win over Minnesota to put them up 3-2 in the second round series.
The final score was 126-97 in the Spurs’ favor. Victor Wembanyama scored 27 points while grabbing 17 rebounds. Off the bench, Sixth Man of the Year Keldon Johnson had 21 points on 8/11 shooting.
The Timberwolves tied the game up at 61 with 7:51 left in the third quarter, but then the Spurs woke up.
After that point, the Spurs outscored the Wolves 65-36, ultimately winning the game by 29.
So the momentum is all in San Antonio’s favor going into Minnesota. But as evident by the first round, the Timberwolves thrive when their backs are against the wall.
Down Anthony Edwards, Ayo Dosunmu and Donte DiVincenzo, the Wolves were able to eliminate the Nuggets in a pivotal Game 6 in the first round, continuing their “never die” attitude.
So despite the momentum and box scores, it’s important to never count out Minnesota.
As of Thursday afternoon, there is nobody on the Spurs’ injury report, meaning they should be going into Game 6 relatively healthy. For Minnesota, they’ll be without DiVincenzo who will miss the rest of the season.
In their last three playoff runs, Minnesota has a 3-2 record in elimination games: all three coming during their 2024 run; against the Nuggets twice and once against the Mavericks.
Tipoff for Game 6 is at 8:30 p.m. CT.
