Texas gas prices have dropped for the second straight week, with the statewide average falling to $3.72 per gallon ahead of the busy summer travel season.
SAN ANTONIO — Texans planning summer road trips may have a little extra money left over for snacks and souvenirs.
According to AAA Texas, gas prices across the state have fallen for the second consecutive week, with the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded now sitting at $3.72.
That’s 20 cents cheaper than last week, though still nearly a dollar higher than this time last year.
Among Texas’ major metro areas, drivers in El Paso are paying the most at an average of $4.05 per gallon, while motorists in McAllen are seeing the lowest prices at $3.44.
The statewide average also remains below the national average of $4.24 per gallon.
AAA says Texas is now one of 17 states with average gas prices below $4 a gallon, offering some relief as families hit the road for summer vacations.
“With constantly fluctuating gas prices at the start of the summer road trip season, it’s hard for drivers to know the best prices for gasoline as they hit the road,” said AAA Texas spokesperson Doug Shupe. He recommends using apps and online tools to compare prices before filling up.
While oil prices have dipped below $100 a barrel, AAA warns prices could remain unpredictable in the coming weeks due to ongoing instability in the Middle East.
For now, though, Texans are getting a welcome break at the pump.
